What we do
THE LOVE LINK
was born out of the desire to give love, protection,
and food to malnourished children in El Salvador. In El Salvador the incidence
of infant malnutrition (children under five years of age) in 1990 was 50%
(430,500 children). Of this number 15.2% (132,700 children) suffer from
moderate and severe malnutrition (according to weight and age). Malnutrition
primarily affects infants between 6 and 36 months of age (65.8% of the
malnourished). There has not been a notable improvement in these figures
in recent years. This implies that a large part of the pediatric population
is at a great risk of contracting disease and dying if they do not receive
nutritional intervention in time to permit their recuperation. They must
regain not only their state of health and nutrition but also their potential
for growth and development.

THE LOVE LINK has played an important part in the treatment of
many malnourished infants from impoverished families. These infants have
been rescued from conditions that undoubtedly would have led to their deaths
or have left them physically and mentally damaged if nutritional intervention
had not been taken.
We know that it is possible to help the little children, and to give
them what they need (food, love and care) just when their brains and bodies
are forming. This is Sonia Patricia Guardado. She came to us when she was
6 months, with severe malnutrition and bronchial pneumonia. Her weight
was 6.8 pounds (3,08 kg). After she had received treatment for 50 days,
her weight was 10.5 pounds (4,76 kg). Believe it or not, these two pictures
are the same child.
At this time there is no entity, neither public nor private, with the
capacity of caring for malnourished infants. There are no hospitals or
clinics that will admit these children and give them the necessary care
that will permit them to reach their potential growth and save them from
malnutrition and its grave consequences. Therefore,THE LOVE LINK
is continuing its work to help children in El Salvador to have a better
life.
Here you can
see some more precious miracles.
